to Europe as openings permit. Operations on 80 and 160 meters is reported
unlikely. All QSL requests go to K8OU. ADDED NOTE. Since John is the
caretaker of the OPDX Web page the site will not be updated for the
next two weeks.
FO, AUSTRAL ISLANDS (Possible new DXCC entity!). Albert, FO5JR, will leave

QSL INFO AND NEWS.....
Peter, ZS6PHD, reports that South Africa has rejoined the UPU and
IRCs can now be used within South Africa. The current cost for IRCs
is SAR 5-00, which is worth slightly under 1 USD. The airmail rate
for postal items up to 10 gram is R 1-90 to anywhere in the world,
so one IRC is more than enough for ZS-land.
Steve, K9VX, reports that the turn-around time for his EP2MKO QSLs
from UA6HCW is about 4 months. He just received his card for a late
January contact, via regular air mail.
The 3W6KA logs are now available on the WEB. Check the URL address
at: http://njdxa.org/3w6log-check.html
Jose, CT1EEB, reports that the 1997 Kure Island DXpedition (K7K) Web
page is up and running. The site contains inoformation and photos.
Check out the URL address: http://www.qsl.net/ct1eeb/index.htm
QSLs for CT98ELP, as well as CQ7ELP (used in WPX SSB Contest), are

DX Log Search for Andy, 9X0A, can now be found on the Web. Logs for
his 9X/RW3AH, 9X0A, and 9U/9X0A operations can be found at:
http://www.qsl.net/n6ed/9x0a.html
Kingman Reef, Johnston and Howland Island QSL cards. Mac, WA4FFW,
reports that all QSL cards for the February-March operations from
N4DAZ/KH3 Johnston Island and for N4BQW/KH5K, Kingman Reef have been
mailed. If you sent a QSL for one of these station's contacts along
with a card for the Howland, WA4FFW/NH1, in the same envelope, you will
have to wait until the Howland cards go out. Gene/WJ4T, Joe/N4DAZ and
Mac are beginning to process the Howland at the present time and expect
to have them completed in the next few weeks. Harold, K4AU, reported
to Mac that he is current with all QSL cards received to date for the
Howland SSB operations K4AU/WH1. Mac also reports that all cards for
the previous operations of Chuck, N4BQW, from Palmyra, Tern, Kure and
Midway have been caught up and have been mailed. They appreciate
everyone's patience as post DXpedition requirements have consummed
more time than expected.
QSLs for J45KLN for activity during 1998 should be sent to Goran,
SM0CMH, via the Swedish QSL bureau or direct to: Goran Lundell,
Algovagen 11, S13336 Saltsjobaden, Sweden.

C21JH, V63JH,... etc., has been getting many QSL cards (mostly from
overseas) for C21NI. C21NI used to be the callsign of the Nauraun
Amateur Radio Club which is now defunct. Jack operated from C21NI
until about November 1991, and he is happy to QSL the contacts before
that date, and also QSOs made with his own callsign C21JH since that
date. However, he is unable to QSL C21NI contacts after November,
1991, and will return the cards if reply postage was included. Jack
is not a member of the Bureau and all QSLs should be sent direct to:

VM4AA, NOT A PIRATE. If you have worked "Macka" VM4AA from Queensland,
Australia, he was Not a pirate. The holder of this unique callsign,
the ONLY one amateur callsign in Australia with a VM prefix, is a
retired Royal Australian Air Force Squadron Leader (AFC,AFM,AE), who
is now 87 years old. Macka was first licensed in 1932 as VK3FX. The
special callsign VM4AAA was awarded to him in 1983 by the then-Minister
of Communications of Australia in recognition of extended participation
in amateur service. The callsign VM4AAA in 1997 was modified to VM4AA.
Keith McCarty known by his amateur name as "Macka" is not often on
the bands, but from time to time he can be found around 14020 kHz or
near using his only mode of activity - CW.

Secretary, informs OPDX that Greece is now using the 6 meters band on a
secondary basis (primary use reserved for the Greek army), therefore the
Greek ministry does not issue licences for visitors (either reciprocal
or CEPT) for that band. Any operation from Greece, Crete or Rhodes from
amateurs other than Greek citizens is illegal.
VK9, LORD HOWE ISLAND. Nick, VK2ICV, is currently looking for 3-4 contest
operators willing to operate from VK9LX during the CQWW CW Contest in
November. The VK8LX team will spend 10 days on the island. Nick states,
"All equipment will be on Lord Howe prior to contest - just bring your
laptop and tooth brush." If interested, contact Nick via E-mail at:
watchman@tig.com.au -- To look at last year's operation, check the Web
