Welcome to the NJDXA DX Reflector Page
New Log into our DXR listings.
The North Jersey DX Association is please to continue
the administration of the DX-Reflector started and managed so well by Lyndon Nerenberg, VE7TCP.
This list is for the discussion of DX related matters only. It is not a list for the general
discussion of ham radio, there are other lists and usenet news groups for that purpose.
Adherence to these guidelines is mandatory! If you fail to follow the guidelines list below,
you will immediately, and permanently, be removed for the list.
The NJDXA also maintains a DX Tips/DXpedition Page.
The page is maintained by Bill Hellman, NA2M. You can
post your own information to the page or send it along to Bill.

DX-NEWS Subscribing and Unsubscribing
Subscribing or unsubscribing (horrors) actions are
as simple as entering your e-mail address in the form below and clicking on the appropriate
button.
If you do not receive an acknowledgement in short order you may have entered your e-mail
address incorrectly.
Mail from the list might not cease immediately after you
unsubscribe. Due to the way mail is handled, you will receive any messages
in the delivery queue (but not yet delivered to you specifically) at the
time you unsubscribe. This should only amount to two or three messages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Introduction - What is the Internet DX Mailing List?
It is an electronic mailing list dedicated
to the discussion of Amateur Radio DXing. This is the place to exchange tips and
techniques, discuss hardware (rigs, antennas, DSP add-ons), awards, DX related
software, announce upcoming DXpeditions, etc. Anything and everything
pertaining to DX is fair game, with the following exceptions:
What postings are allowed?
Park your flames (inflammatory remarks) and egos
at home. This list is for constructive commentary. DON'T send problems, unsubscribe, or
bitches to the list. If you don't like the way something send a message using the feedback
from below. DON'T post non-dx opinions to the list. We don't want to hear about it unless
you have a positive and constructive solution or alternative. (Perpetual whiners will be
banished to 160 KHz with a 10 mW transmitter, and will not be admitted back to the list
until they achieve DXCC honor roll on that band.)
What happens if I break the rules?
The first rule is, NO PROFANITY. This is a family
oriented list. The first breach of this rule and you will be permanently removed from the
list.
If you post something that is non-dx related you will receive a private gentle reminder.
If you repeat, you will receive a not so gentle reminder. Third time and your history.
Our software allows blocked e-mail address. We can add prohibited addresses faster that
you can change them!
The people subscribing to this list have done so because we limit postings to DX and an
occasional admistrivia post. We take this seriously.
dx-news@pro-usa.net
What about contesting?
Discussion about contests and contesting should be
kept to minimum. The CQ-Contest list already provides an excellent forum for contest related
discussions. To subscribe to CQ-Contest, send an e-mail request to cq-contest-request@tgv.com
Subscribing, Unsubscribing, and Administrivia
How do I subscribe to or unsubscribe from the list?
A robot maintains the mailing list subscriptions. There are two ways
to subscribe or unsubscribe from the list. The easist way is to use the form at
the top of this page.
If you're a purists, you may also send a message to:
listserv@pro-usa.net
in the body insert:
subscribe dx-news your-first-name your-last-name
or
unsubscribe dx-news
One of the problems using this approach is the e-mail address is taken from the message
header. If you try and unsubscribe from an address other than your header address the
request will bounce.
If you get stuck you can send a message to listserv@pro-usa.net with only the word
HELP in the body. This will tell the robot to send you help about the commands
it understands.
Mail from the list might not cease immediately after you
unsubscribe. Due to the way mail is handled, you will receive any messages
in the delivery queue (but not yet delivered to you specifically) at the
time you unsubscribe. This should only amount to two or three messages.
What about duplicate message?
Before you panic, check the mail headers.
Many complaints about duplicates are really messages sent to more than one list.
If you are subscribed to both lists (for example, the DX-NEWS list and the
CQ-Contest list) you will receive two copies of the message - one from
each mailing list. This is not a bug.
Unfortunately, duplicate messages can also be caused by mailers at
the receiving end of the mailing list. Precautions are taken to prevent
error messages and the like from escaping back to the mailing list, but
you would not believe the amount of totally broken mail software out
there on the Internet these days.
If you receive one or two duplicate messages, ignore them.
If you always receive duplicate messages you may be subscribed to the list
from two different address. If you can extract the Received: headers from the
message, you can forward copies of the message with the Received: headers intact to
urb@usats.com
If you cannot include the Received: headers DON'T forward the messages.
I can't debug the problem without them.
AGAIN, DO NOT send mail about the problem to the entire mailing list! The
list subscribers cannot do anything to fix the problem, and have probably
figured out for themselves that something is wrong.
How do I send a message to the list?
It's easy! Just send an e-mail message to:
dx-news@pro-usa.net
Your message will be automatically resent to all the mailing list
subscribers. Depending on the load on our mail system this could take
anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. If you don't see your
message within a day or so, send a message to
urb@usats.com (NOT the
general submission address) and I will look into the problem.
Why are my posting rejected?
The most common reason for rejection is
e-mail aliases or forwarding. Only subscribers can post to the list. (You don't
even want to think about non-subscriber postings.) You may have an e-mail alias
such as W2DX@qsl.net which automatically forwards your mail to W2DX@bellatlantic.net.
If you subscribe as W2DX@qsl.net, you cannot post as W2DX@bellatlantic.net. Most
mail program, including Netscape, will let you mail with any return address. Go to
your configuration options. If you send mail from Bill@whitehouse.gov, don't tell
the FBI where you picked up this tidbit.
Is the mailing list archived?
May I send postings from other sources?
No compilation copyright is asserted over this
mailing list. The individual submissions to the mailing list may be (and probably
are) covered by national copyright law, and international copyright conventions. When in
doubt, consult a lawyer.
If you do reproduce information obtained from the list in a published newsletter please
give credit to the message author and the mailing list.
What are the general guidelines?
Here are a few things to keep in mind when sending
a message to the list. Adherence to these guidelines is mandatory! If you fail to
follow them you will immediately, and permanently, be removed from the list.
- Make sure your subject line is appropriate. If a conversation
wanders off the original topic, change the subject line to reflect the new line of discussion.
- Proofread your message before sending it! Spelling mistakes and poor formatting do nothing
to help you get your message across.
- Keep it short! Many subscribers pay for their e-mail access.
- If replying to an existing message, repeat only as much as necessary. We all read it once.
Don't include 100 lines of the message you're replying to and then say "I agree."
- Watch your language! Don't say anything that you wouldn't (or shouldn't) say over the air.
Profanity will not be tolerated.
- If someone asks a question, send your answer to them directly.
The person asking the question should collect the responses, then
send a summary to the list. This helps cut down on unnecessary list traffic.
- Absolutely no flaming. If someone sends a flame to the list and you
can't bite your tongue, send your flaming reply directly back to
the flaming individual, not back to the list. No one wants to read flames.
- Make sure there is something of value in each message you send
to the list.
